On August 18, 2026,, ams OSRAM announced that it has filed two patent infringement lawsuits in Germany against an electronic components distributor for selling automotive LED products manufactured by Shenzhen Refond Optoelectronics Co., Ltd.

In these lawsuits, ams OSRAM is seeking a permanent injunction, damages for losses incurred, and the recall and destruction of the infringing products.

ams OSRAM contends that certain automotive LED products from Refond’s ceramic‑package and EMC‑package series infringe upon several of the company’s patented technologies. The six patents at issue cover key innovations that enable high efficiency, high reliability, and compact light sources for automotive applications, while delivering high brightness and superior light quality.

ams OSRAM stated that this legal action stems from its ongoing, rigorous market monitoring and marks an expansion of the company’s patent‑protection efforts—from plant‑lighting LEDs (introduced in 2025) to the automotive lighting sector.

For decades, ams OSRAM has placed a strong emphasis on innovation in automotive LED technology and has consistently increased R&D investment in this area. The company will continue to evaluate additional legal measures to uphold market order and safeguard the long-term value of its technologies for stakeholders worldwide.
