The 2022 China International Lighting/Luminaire Design Competition officially launched

On March 31, the "2022 China International Lighting/Luminaire Design Competition" launched online, jointly hosted by CALI (China Association of Lighting Industry) and the Guzhen Town Government of Zhongshan City. Liu Shengping, Vice Chairman of CALI, attended the event, delivered a speech, and announced the launch of the competition. Ruan Zhili, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Mayor of Guzhen Town, Zhongshan City, also attended and delivered a speech. More than 4,200 people participated in the competition launch event online.

刘理事长在致辞中指出，中国国际照明/灯具设计大赛已经连续成功举办了十届，行业中有1000余家单位和个人，参加了设计大赛的各项赛事，协会秘书处累计征集到了实物及概念的设计作品3000余件。作品中的技术创新点和艺术设计的魅力，引起了产业界的广泛关注。社会上和行业中对获奖作品的高度认可，极大的激发了设计师的创作积极性。设计大赛在社会各界产生了积极的影响。

China's economy is currently in a transition period from high-speed development to high-quality development. Innovation has become a key factor in enhancing industry competitiveness. Improving design innovation and technical innovation capabilities is an important foundation for promoting high-quality development of the industry. The design competition will take serving national strategies and leading industry development as its primary task, build and improve a display and exchange platform for independent innovative design, and continuously enhance the international influence of China's lighting industry.

She also expressed three hopes for this competition: First, she hopes that all participating parties will pay attention to changes in consumer demand, break through traditional concepts, and boldly innovate designs. Second, she hopes that the relevant personnel of the design competition will scientifically, objectively, fairly, and rigorously carry out tasks such as organizing applications and judging awards. Third, she hopes that all participating institutions of the design competition will actively and seriously carry out various publicity and promotion work, with a high sense of responsibility and mission, strengthen and promote the appeal and influence of the design competition, so that the China International Lighting/Luminaire Design Competition truly becomes an important stage providing high-level original works to the lighting appliance industry and delivering high-level design talents to the lighting industry.

Town Mayor Ruan Zhili pointed out that innovation is the primary driving force leading development, and design is the key lever for accelerating industry transformation and enhancing core competitiveness. We must build a new pattern through design, embrace new development through design, and stimulate new vitality through design. As an important platform for attracting talent and gathering innovative wisdom in the industry, the China International Lighting/Luminaire Design Competition has gradually become a major industrial design event domestically and even internationally, effectively promoting the integrated development of industrial design and the decorative lighting industry. We hope to take this event as an opportunity, build a solid platform, recruit talents broadly, and unite strength to make new and greater contributions to the high-quality development of the industry!

At the meeting, Wang Zhuo, Secretary-General of the China Lighting Association, reviewed the development history of the competition and introduced the overall plan for the 2022 China International Lighting/Luminaire Design Competition. Unlike previous years, this year's design competition includes two sub-categories: agricultural lighting and landscape lighting, with increased promotional investment to expand the competition's influence. Hong Bing, Secretary-General of the Agricultural Lighting Committee of the China Lighting Association, and Wang Qin, Secretary-General of the Landscape Lighting Committee of the China Lighting Association, respectively introduced the plans for the agricultural lighting and landscape lighting sub-categories.

During the conference, a 'Lighting Product Design Seminar' was also organized and held. Representatives of award-winning units from previous competitions and expert judges were invited to share their experiences in participating in or judging past competitions. Tang Lintao, Associate Professor and Doctoral Supervisor at the Department of Industrial Design, Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University, delivered a report titled 'Methodology for Innovative Design of Lighting Products'. Through sharing cases of different luminaire and lighting designs, he pointed out that designers should base their work on research, driven by design, and conduct research through design. Liu Erli, Deputy Director of the National Luminaire Quality Inspection and Testing Center, explained the safety technical requirements for lighting products regarding categories of protection against electric shock, internal and external wiring, etc. Huang Zhibin, Head of the Guangyang Lighting R&D Center of Guangdong Guangyang Electric Appliance Co., Ltd., shared his insights and gains from participating in the competition multiple times in previous years.

Guanya Lighting products won the first prize in the 2018 Design Competition and made their debut at the opening ceremony of the 2022 Winter Olympics.

The China International Lighting Fixture Design Competition, launched in 2011 under the support of the 'China Green Lighting Engineering Promotion Project' led by the National Development and Reform Commission and organized by CALI (China Association of Lighting Industry), is a professional lighting fixture design event. After eleven successful years, it has evolved into a highly recognized and influential annual professional lighting design competition within China's lighting industry, playing a positive leading and promoting role in enhancing the overall design level of lighting products in the sector.

The 2022 '11th China International Lighting/Luminaire Design Competition' includes sub-categories for the 'Agricultural Lighting Award' and the 'Landscape Lighting Award'.
