Signify and Honeywell launch holistic lighting solutions to optimize commercial building space experience

Global lighting leader Signify (Euronext Amsterdam code: LIGHT) recently announced a strategic partnership with global smart building leader Honeywell (NYSE code: HON) to launch holistic smart lighting solutions for commercial buildings. The two parties are committed to optimizing space experience, improving office efficiency and user well-being, and reducing building energy consumption.


Through this collaboration, the parties integrate Signify's Interact smart connected lighting systems and software, UV-C disinfection lighting systems with Honeywell Building Management Systems and Honeywell Forge enterprise performance management platform, using occupancy rates and air quality indicators such as temperature and humidity as evaluation factors to comprehensively manage building energy consumption. Signify lighting solutions[*] will initially empower Honeywell's Healthy Building Air Quality Solution in early 2021, controlling, evaluating and monitoring air and surface cleanliness indicators within the building through the Healthy Building control interface.

To further improve office efficiency and user well-being, Signify also provides Human Centric Lighting solutions for this collaboration, including the NatureConnect simulated natural lighting system and UV-C disinfection lighting systems. UV-C ultraviolet light can destroy the molecular structure of DNA or RNA in the cells of microorganisms such as viruses and bacteria, achieving inactivation effects. Laboratory tests show that Signify UV-C light sources can effectively inactivate the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 to below detectable levels within 9 secondsi.


In addition, building owners and property managers can leverage smart connected LED lighting systems to enhance the management capabilities and energy efficiency of their lighting systems. A survey on commercial building energy consumptionii shows that lighting accounts for the largest share of total electricity consumption in U.S. commercial buildings, reaching 17%. The proportion of electricity used for lighting in commercial buildings globally is generally at a similar leveliii.


Signify's Interact Office smart connected LED lighting system can effectively save 70% of lighting electricityiv, and when combined with Honeywell's advanced building management and sensing systems, it can reduce overall property energy consumption by 30%v.

Integrating building and lighting systems benefits patients at a Malaysian eye clinic


Currently, Honeywell and Signify are collaborating to deploy a comprehensive Solution for OPTIMAX Eye Specialists, Malaysia's leading chain of eye clinics, aiming to improve clinic air quality and enhance surface disinfection.


"Honeywell and Signify have jointly provided our clinics with a comprehensive Solution covering air, surface, and object disinfection, demonstrating our efforts to ensure clinic hygiene and enhance user well-being," said Dato' Sri Tan Boon Hock, Founder of OPTIMAX Eye Specialists.

Currently, OPTIMAX clinics combine Signify's upper-air disinfection systems and standalone disinfection carts with Honeywell system-controlled HVAC to disinfect clinic air ± and surfaces §, enhancing the spatial experience. Clinic managers can monitor the usage of Signify products in real time through the Honeywell Healthy Building Operations interface.


Through this collaboration, Honeywell and Signify can integrate their respective product strengths to provide customized Solutions for specific building management needs in industries such as high-end commercial buildings, airports, hotels, healthcare, education, retail, and sports venues. Currently, both parties are deploying comprehensive Solutions for several global offices under Honeywell, utilizing Philips upper-air UV-C air disinfection systems.


Honeywell Healthy Building Solutions help building owners improve the building environment, enhance cleanliness and safety, ensure compliant social distancing, and assist employees in returning to work with confidence.
